Atlantis and other dreams
As The Creators Project puts it,
“The legendary city of Atlantis isn’t lost, it turns out—it just hasn’t been built yet.”
Shimizu’s Ocean Spiral will be divided into three sections: the city itself, a sphere suspended 1,640 feet below the ocean’s surface that will feature both residential and business establishments, a 9-mile spiral path beneath the structure, and Ocean Spiral’s “earth factory,” according to the project’s press release. With the help of microorganisms, this “factory” will convert carbon dioxide to methane and generate energy from thermal differences in the surrounding sea.
Hideo Imamura, the spokeperson from Shimizu corporation, told The Guardian that “This is a real goal, not a pipe dream“
And it is not the only one, as Shimizu Corporation has a Dream section on its webpage, that includes, among the others: a Lunar Solar Power Generator to free humanity from the need of energy, a Space Hotel, my favourite, the Inter Cell City which concept aims to
create a sustainable urban system composed of a distributed network of small-scale, self-sufficient units
and a Green Floating City which reminds me a good deal of Singapore itself.
Well, here the rendering of the submerged new world By AFP/Getty Images and Shimizu Corporation. For those of you who are, like me, read The Penultimate Truth and might be a bit suspicious, no, it looks like a different idea.
